The first National Gay & Lesbian Athletic Conference will be held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, March 28-30, 2003. The conference is being organized by the Gay & Lesbian Athletics Foundation (GLAF) and will be the first conference of its kind which focuses on the acceptance and visibility of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) athletes in the professional, amateur and recreational athletic communities.
“This conference provides a forum for LGBT professional, amateur and recreational athletes from around the world to share their stories and experiences and learn from one another,” said Mac Chinsomboon, Executive Director of GLAF.
The conference will include keynote speakers, panel discussions and workshops sponsored by such content sponsors as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).
Tennis great Billie Jean King recently joined the Advisory Board for GLAF. King stated, “This Foundation, as well as the conference, will be a forum for intellectual discussion, debate, investigation and expression. The main focus will be on the acceptance and visibility of LGBT athletes in the professional, amateur, and recreational athletics communities.”
